Hyundai has tossed around a lot of big talk regarding its new front-engine/rear-drive entry, the Genesis Coupe. Press releases quote executives mentioning things like using the ride, handling, and power of the Infiniti G37 Coupe as benchmarks, having chassis rigidity 24% stiffer than the BMW M3, and being the least expensive 300+hp coupe on the market. Truly, the Genesis Coupe brings a lot to the table for its relatively small pricetag. With a list of standard features that will make a lot of competitors blush, the Coupe is nicely positioned for its debut.
The Base engine is a 2.0-liter, turbocharged inline four-cylinder (I4) that produces 210 hp and 233 lb-ft of torque. This means a 0-60 time that still falls well under 7 seconds, although testers have complained about “buzziness” with this engine. The various trims utilizing the 2.0-liter have either a six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic and get EPA estimates of 21/30 mpg on regular old 87 octane, something Hyundai seems determined not to let anyone forget.
The larger of the two available engines is a 3.8-liter V6, which will do 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, thanks to 306 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. With a six-speed manual that has seen a wealth of criticism for imprecise feel and general sloppiness, it seems the optional and proven ZF six-speed automatic is the transmission of choice. Standard paddle shifters and a more aggressive rear axle ratio with the automatic - 3.73 vs. 3.54 - also speak well for its overall reception. Again, running on plain old 87 octane, the V6 will deliver EPA estimates of 17/26 mpg for the manual and 18/26 for the automatic.
There are several limited trims, including the 2.0T Track trim, which comes with 19-inch alloys, 13.4-inch Brembo disc brakes with four-piston red calipers, a Torsen-type limited-slip differential, unique leather-accented seats, aluminum pedals, Xenon HID headlights, foglamps, an aluminum spare wheel, a navigation system, and a rear spoiler. An “R-Spec” trim offers the same features of the Track trim, minus the leather seats, navigation system, and Xenon lights, hoping to attract the racing crowd with a blank canvas.

What owners say
"Owners of the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe generally feel positive about their vehicles, praising its fun driving experience, stylish design, and solid performance. Many appreciated the powerful engines, particularly the V6 options, and the comfortable seating. However, some buyers were concerned about the cost of replacement parts, limited rear seat space, and minor quality issues like interior fittings peeling. Overall, it seems like a great sports coupe for those looking for performance at a reasonable price."
Performance - acceleration = amazing, braking = best brakes ive ever seen, handling = amazing Build Quality - flawless .. though the subwoofer often raddles the roof panel in the back Appearance - awesome styling inside and out 10/10 .. though the front of the car seems like its missing something 9/10 Cost of Ownership - gas mileage = what evey person should expect out of a sports car, maintenance = very easy to do Fun Factor - is this car fun to drive? = you have no idea .... im in heaven every time I do =)
December 22, 2011Its a sick car. It looks really nice, and with some body mods, it looks godly. 300 horsepower and torque is still good. Great car for the value, only starting at $18 000 for the 2.0L. Saved my dad's life with the new safety technology. GET THIS CAR.
February 11, 2010Cars features were amazing. Base price seems reasonable for somebody working a full time job. Car has everything I was looking for and I honestly can’t compare it to any other car. In my opinion, I would recommend this car over the 2010 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 premium as well

July 10, 2022Car exceeds expectations and is fun to drive, it makes my commute a joy.
May 27, 2020I looked at several cars before choosing the Genesis. I had previously owned a Nissan 350-Z and an Infiniti G-37. The G-37 turned out not to be all that so I got rid of it and started looking for a replacement commuter car (the Z was a weekend toy). I saved the Genesis for last because I had a feeling that was the car I would be buying. We had a 2007 Sonata and loved it-it never had one issue.. I have been driving for 40 years and have never owned a front wheel drive car so my search was somewhat limited. Apparently, nobody makes RWD cars anymore (I'm not counting cars made here)! I have had the car for 2 1/2 years and still love it as much as the day I bought it. This is only the second car I have driven for more than 2 years (I get bored easily!) and I plan to keep in until the wheels fall off! It's comfortable, quick and handles like it's on rails! I adore it!!!
August 23, 2012In my opinion, the Genesis Coupe is easily one of the most attractive vehicles on the road currently. It easily competes with the G37, 370Z, Camaro and Mustang at a fraction of the cost, and fuel consumption is much better than any of these competitors. The exhaust sound is intoxicating, and I find myself driving it aggressively just to hear its rumble. Interior fit and finish is simple, with controls being well laid out, with not too many buttons. Some of the finishes could potentially feel a little less plasticky.
May 6, 2010My wife and I love sports cars and we have had some sporty vehicles but the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coup 3.8 is a true sports car for the common man (that has 2 kids)! We love how it looks and how it handles. The 3.8L V6 has over 300HP and a driver/passenger can really tell! We love this car and look forward to having it for the rest of our lives (with a few upgrades along the way)! Maybe someday I'll get my chance to get it out on a real closed road-course style track!
February 5, 2014Appearance; was very stylish and looks great, and was quite comfortable inside especially with the soft bucket type seats. Build quality; Its fairly quiet when your commute. Although there is a small rear pillar that prevents you from looking back at your blind spot, but you get use to it and look past that. As for gas milages its pretty good avg 25mpg on premium. Maintenance and repair costs are also fairly cheap. Performance; With a turbo built in the car accelerates smoothly and quickly, for handling its not so great as its a pretty heavy car. Overall its a fun car to drive everyday.
November 21, 2011For $40g, you get a 3.8L V6 300hp, 6spd, brembo brakes, Navi, leather interior, heated seats. It's an amazing car for the $...awesome handling, superb acceleration ( it's very easy to hit 160kms, and not even realize it). The car always turns heads, not only because of the color...but I have removed all the name plates and replaced them with aftermarket emblems that resemble the Aston Martin emblem....so it really confuses people. I laugh when I look in my rearview mirror and watch the people behind me trying to figure out what the car is. :)
October 23, 2011Although I have owned the car for 6 months, I am retired so I have only driven it 3000 miles. It is everything you could want in a car. Good looking - comfortable and a blast to drive. It is my daily drive and I look forward to using it!!! Far superior to all my previous rides. (Mostly Toyota Celicas)
