New & Used 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class for SaleNationwide

Is the 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class a good car?

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class earns a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

That lines up with what you get in the SL: a luxurious convertible with stylish design, a comfortable ride, and a broad range of powertrain choices. It is also meant to be easy to live with, and the lineup now includes the ultra-luxury Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series, which broadens its appeal if you want something more exclusive.

The trade-offs are real, though. The transmission can be irritating, and the lack of physical controls may frustrate you if you prefer simpler, more tactile interfaces.

With 33.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class reliable?

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is presented as a premium convertible that is easy to live with, with a comfortable ride and a lineup that spans from the AMG SL 43 to the Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series. Its powertrain range is broad, and the Maybach version adds softer suspension tuning for extra ride comfort while still keeping strong body control and quick responses.

Mercedes says the Maybach SL will reach 60 mph in 4.0 seconds, and the SL lineup includes a nine-speed dual-clutch automatic across the range. The Maybach model also uses the same rear-axle steering and active anti-roll hardware found on the E Performance model, which supports stability and composure.

Mercedes also says the Maybach SL gets special damper valves and softer springs to prioritize comfort, and the standard maintenance perk language is not present in the provided data.

For used buyers, the long-term ownership risk is mainly tied to premium-car complexity and the possibility that the transmission and control setup may be less satisfying over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 98.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a car with this much technology and performance hardware. Focus on how the transmission behaves at low speeds, whether the cabin electronics work cleanly, and whether the car feels as tight and composed as it should over rough pavement.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans SL 43, SL 55, SL 63, SL 63 S E Performance, and Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series. The base SL 43 is the only one that significantly undercuts the higher-end models on price, while the Maybach version adds ultra-luxury touches such as a chrome grille, hood ornament, exclusive paint options, and Maybach-specific interior details.
• Powertrain: The SL 43 uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four with 416 horsepower and rear-wheel drive, while the higher trims move to twin-turbo V8 power, all-wheel drive, and in the SL 63 S E Performance, a plug-in hybrid system with 805 horsepower and 1,047 lb-ft of torque.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, blind spot monitors, safe-exit assist, lane-keep assist, parking assist, Pre-Safe, and a surround-view camera. Adaptive cruise control is optional, and it adds stop-and-go functionality plus automatic speed-limit adjustment.
• Infotainment: You get a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.9-inch touchscreen, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, natural-language voice recognition, and responsive MBUX software. Optional upgrades include a head-up display, dashcam, and augmented reality navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The SL 43 is EPA-rated at 22 mpg combined, with 19 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. The SL 55 and SL 63 are rated at 16 mpg combined, with 14 mpg city and 21 mpg highway. The SL 63 S E Performance is estimated at 29 mpg combined, with 33 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.

Which 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class trim should I buy?

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is offered in 5 trim levels: SL 43, SL 55, SL 63, SL 63 S E Performance, and Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series.

Here's the short version:

• SL 43: This is the entry point and the only trim that meaningfully undercuts the rest of the lineup on price. It gives you the SL experience with the 416-horsepower turbo-four, and it makes the most sense if you want the badge and style without jumping into V8 pricing.
• SL 55: This is the first V8 model and a strong step up if you want all-wheel drive and more effortless performance. It adds a more serious grand-touring feel, but it is not the best-value choice unless you specifically want the V8 and AWD combination.
• SL 63: This is the more powerful V8 choice if you want stronger acceleration without going all the way to the hybrid flagship. It is the better pick if performance matters more than value.
• SL 63 S E Performance: This is the outright performance flagship, with 805 horsepower, plug-in hybrid hardware, carbon-ceramic brakes, rear-axle steering, and an active anti-roll system. Buy this if you want the most extreme SL and are willing to pay for it.
• Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series: This is the best-value trim in the lineup if your priority is luxury rather than outright speed. It combines the 577-horsepower V8 with Maybach-specific comfort tuning and exclusive design details, and the data suggests it delivers the most complete luxury experience without needing a long options list.

Standard safety equipment is strong across the lineup, while adaptive cruise control remains optional.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assistance features include automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, blind spot monitors, safe-exit assist, lane-keep assist, parking assist, Pre-Safe, and a surround-view camera. Adaptive cruise control is optional, and it adds stop-and-go capability, automatic speed-limit adjustment, Congestion Emergency Braking, and steering-assist features for evasive maneuvers and lane changes.

One caveat is that the standard surround-view camera’s default 3D view is described as distorted, though a 2D view is available.

Should I buy a 2026 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 98.6% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• The 2026 lineup adds the ultra-luxury Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series, giving you a new top-end option if you want the most exclusive SL.

The bottom line: If you want the newest SL with the broadest lineup and the added Maybach option, the 2026 model is the right path. If you are more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still make sense, especially if you are focused on getting the SL experience at a lower entry price.
