overall

Summary
With 98 currently listed for sale and an average price of $24,193, 36.7% of 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
91.8% of 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In stands out first for its redesigned look. Kia gave the Niro dramatic new styling for the 2023 model year, and that fresh design is a major part of its appeal. It also keeps the plug-in hybrid powertrain in a lineup that includes hybrid and all-electric versions, which makes the Niro distinctive among mainstream choices.
Beyond the styling, the 2023 Niro PHEV adds more power and electric range than the previous-generation Niro PHEV. It also brings a revamped interior, and the test-drive notes describe it as spacious with a great warranty. Those strengths make it an appealing option for buyers who want efficiency without giving up a roomy cabin.
There are tradeoffs, though. The same test-drive data calls out sluggish performance, limited cargo space, and the lack of all-wheel drive. Even so, the 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In remains notable for combining a bold redesign with plug-in hybrid practicality in a package that is still easy to live with.

Very comfortable, quiet, energy-efficient car that will save money by running mostly on electricity rather than gas.

This car is amazing, tech is easy to use, driving is really nice. Great turning radius. Haven’t really done lots of highway yet. I bought the EX model ( basic) because that’s all that was available, aside from missing a few cosmetic upgrades and sunroof, this car has all the engine and tech of more expensive models AND the tire size cost half of the SV model which for those of us who need snow tires is a nice break!! A quality vehicle, tighter drive and specs than Toyota and Ford. The ev experience is wonderful, combustion engine remains in the background until needed . Some other PHEV brands seem to run the combustion engine too easily. Too bad about the fed tax credit, certainly would help sell more!!

Is the 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating and 7.2/10 expert rating point to a vehicle that lands well with shoppers who want efficiency, a roomy cabin, and a distinctive design. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10. Owners repeatedly praise the tech features, comfortable ride, and space inside, while also noting strong efficiency and performance in electric mode. On the other hand, the expert review calls out sluggish performance and limited cargo space, and the lack of all-wheel drive may matter if you want more traction or versatility. For you, the Niro PHEV makes the most sense if you want a plug-in hybrid with bold styling and everyday practicality rather than maximum utility or quick acceleration. The market signal is mixed but workable, with 26.8% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback also points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with owners describing the vehicle as efficient, comfortable, and strong in electric mode, which suggests a car many drivers can count on day to day. Kia’s powertrain warranty is a major ownership advantage, and the brand’s coverage remains a standout perk for long-term peace of mind. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about durability and more about whether the car’s limited cargo space and modest performance will still suit your needs over time.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies. You should still run a vehicle history report, verify maintenance records, and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re shopping for a higher-mileage example or one with visible wear. Focus your inspection on cabin condition, cargo-area usability, and whether the tech and driver-assist features work as expected, since those are central to the Niro’s appeal.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base trim gives you the core Niro PHEV experience, but the higher trim adds more equipment and a more upscale feel. If you want the best value, the lower trim is the one to compare carefully against the added features you actually plan to use.
- Powertrain: The plug-in hybrid setup pairs a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with a more powerful electric motor and an 11.1-kWh battery pack. It delivers 180 horsepower and front-wheel drive, with a driving feel that is more familiar than some other plug-in hybrids but not especially quick.
- Safety package: Standard driver-assistance features include forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a driver attention monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, safe exit warning, rear occupant alert, blind-spot collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, and navigation-based curve prediction. Highway Driving Assist II is optional.
- Infotainment: You get a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wired Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Digital Key 2.0. The dual-screen layout is a major part of the cabin’s appeal.
- Fuel efficiency: Kia expects an all-electric range of 33 miles on standard 16-inch wheels.
Which 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In trim should I buy?
The 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In is offered in 2 trim levels: EX and SX Touring.
Here's the short version:
- EX: This is the trim to start with if you want the lowest entry point into the Niro PHEV lineup. It gives you the core plug-in hybrid setup, the standard tech suite, and the full set of standard driver-assistance features, making it the value-focused choice for most shoppers.
- SX Touring: This is the better pick if you want the more upscale version and are willing to pay for it. It adds more equipment and is the trim to consider if you care most about getting the most complete Niro PHEV experience.
The standard safety package is strong across the lineup, and the optional Highway Driving Assist II system is available if you want more advanced assistance.

Should I buy a 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 26.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2023 model year brings a redesigned look, a revamped interior, and more power and electric range than the previous-generation Niro PHEV.
The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Niro PHEV with its stronger appeal, roomy cabin, and plug-in practicality, the 2023 is the one to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, it’s worth shopping carefully for the best deal because the model’s appeal depends heavily on whether you value its styling and packaging enough to justify the premium over more conventional crossover alternatives.
