How much does the 2023 Toyota Tacoma cost?

Prices have softened 2.28% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 7,351 listings available, which suggests you should have a healthy range of choices.

Is the 2023 Toyota Tacoma a good car?

Generally — you’re looking at a 4.3/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Owners repeatedly praise its reliability, rugged build, and off-road capability, and they also point to strong resale value and a versatile personality. The trade-offs are familiar: the cabin can feel tight, and some shoppers want more modern features and comfort. That fits the Tacoma’s role as a truck for you if you value toughness and utility more than polish. With 32.9% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also emphasizes reliability, dependability, and a trouble-free ownership experience, while the expert summary reinforces its bullet-proof reputation and long-term appeal.

Toyota’s performance notes also support that dependable image, with the Tacoma described as a truck you can count on for everyday use and off-road duty. If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is that age-related wear and outdated hardware can matter more than the badge itself.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Tacoma?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on cabin wear, suspension condition, and signs of hard use, especially if the truck was used off-road or for towing. Pay close attention to how the truck feels on the road, since condition matters a lot on a model that can vary widely by trim and use case.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from SR to SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Trail Special Edition, with the SR trim described as the most spartan and the Limited trim as the most upscale. Base-trim trucks are the ones most likely to feel light on comfort and convenience features.
• Powertrain: Lower trims use a 2.7-liter four-cylinder with 159 horsepower and a six-speed automatic, while the available 3.5-liter V6 makes 278 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque and is the better choice if you want stronger performance.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert, and automatic high beams. Higher trims can add blind-spot monitoring, rear- and side parking distance sensors, and a surround-view camera, but you won’t find lane-keeping assist or rear automatic emergency braking.
• Infotainment: Base SR trims use a 7-inch touchscreen, while higher trims get an 8-inch screen. Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM are included, but the system is described as a bit outdated.
• Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder with rear-wheel drive is rated at 20 mpg city and 23 highway, while the V6 with four-wheel drive is rated at 18 mpg city and 22 highway. The truck’s fuel economy is a known weak point.

Which 2023 Toyota Tacoma trim should I buy?

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma is offered in 6 trim levels: SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Trail Special Edition.

Here's the short version:

• SR: This is the most basic Tacoma, so it makes sense if you want the lowest entry point and can live with the sparest cabin and the smaller 7-inch touchscreen.
• SR5: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more everyday usability without pushing you into the pricier off-road or luxury-focused versions.
• TRD Sport: Choose this if you want a more styled-up Tacoma with a stronger personality than the lower trims, while still staying on the road-focused side of the lineup.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the better pick if you want the Tacoma’s off-road hardware and capability to be the priority.
• TRD Pro: This is the trim for you if you want the most serious off-road setup, including underbody skid pads, a TRD-tuned suspension, and a TRD sport exhaust.
• Trail Special Edition: Pick this if you want a more distinctive Tacoma with a special-edition flavor rather than the most capability-focused setup.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard, but the Tacoma does not include lane-keeping assist or rear automatic emergency braking.

• Inventory: There are 7,351 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.28% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.8% of listings are accident-free.

What is the 2023 Toyota Tacoma's resale value?

The current average of $35,818 sits slightly below last year's $36,654.

That modest decline suggests the Tacoma is holding value reasonably well rather than sliding sharply. For a future seller, that means you’re starting from a relatively stable price base, especially if your truck has a clean history and desirable equipment. Strong demand for this model year should help support resale, but condition and trim will still matter a lot when you go to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Toyota Tacoma safe?

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure alert, and automatic high beams. Higher trims can add blind-spot monitoring, rear- and side parking distance sensors, and a surround-view camera. You should also note that the Tacoma does not include lane-keeping assist or rear automatic emergency braking.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.28% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It offers the familiar Tacoma formula of reliability, off-road ability, and ideal size.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $32,829, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $35,818 average.
• It remains a smaller-truck choice with off-road ability and a traditional feel.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $38,008, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $35,818 average.
• It brings a ground-up redesign with a new platform and turbocharged powertrains.

The bottom line: If you want the familiar Tacoma experience and a more favorable price trend, the 2023 is the safer default. If you’re focused on saving money, the 2022 is the better value play. If you want the newest hardware and can spend more, the 2024 is the upgrade path.
