CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Polestar 2
overall

Summary
With 358 currently listed for sale and an average price of $20,650, 41.1% of 2022 Polestar 2 listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Polestar 2 4 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
91.6% of 2022 Polestar 2 listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Polestar 2 stands out as the brand’s first major push into the luxury electric vehicle market, with Polestar aiming to compete against the Teslas and Audis of the EV world. It also carries the backing of Geely Car Groups, which gives the fledgling brand a stronger foundation than many new automakers have. That positioning helps explain why the car is presented as a serious attempt to make Polestar a household name rather than just another electric offshoot.
What makes the 2022 Polestar 2 appealing is its combination of stylish design, impressive technology, and premium interior materials. Those strengths give it a polished, upscale feel that fits its luxury ambitions. At the same time, it is not without drawbacks: poor visibility, limited cargo space, and poor value for money are all part of its appeal equation, making it a car that may impress on style and substance but still asks buyers to accept some practical compromises.

Comparable models Ive driven include Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, both of which I loved. My wife and I were fortunate enough to have been given access to a 2021 Launch Edition for a couple months, with no intention of buying it. Well that intention changed about the minute we took our first drive, and our sentiment only intensified after that, finding more and more subtle features that we just love about the thing. Instantly you feel immediate torque. The cocoon like cockpit makes you feel super secure in the car, and in absolute control for a better driving experience. the digital dashboard cluster shows the map and other data, while the 11.2-inch tablet touch panel provides easy intuitive access to features like climate control, safety features, maps, charging locations, individual or overhead camera, music sources, the Vivaldi browser, et al. The accelerator pedal long travel is just perfect, and not twitchy like others that felt like it was going to take off on the slightest press. Steering wheel feels nice and tight, not to floaty, nor too twitchy like a video game. This car just feels so right and didnt take very long at all to get accustomed to. Best handling car Ive ever piloted, for superb driving experience. theres nothing not to like, other than occasional glitches like linking my phone one when wife unlocked with her key fob, set her profile (apps, one pedal drive off), her seat position etc, but strangely blue toothed to my phone. Update to P1.9 seems to have corrected it since we can not reproduce. the car has nice overhead connect button that calls Polestar. I had to use this once when friend was messing with the overhead SOS button. favorite feature might be Tesla-like regenerative braking that Polestar calls One-pedal drive, where you seldom have to use the brakes, its tuned just so perfectly and feels great with visual graph showing you how much charge youre putting back into the battery. least favorite might be that Polestar scaled down the non-Pilot pack too much, eliminating safety features we feel essential, like 360 cam thats useful to perfectly position it in a tight garage. We ended up using the car for recreation, parked in garage to listen to music and just hang out. Id do wish they had Apple CarPlaycompleted (though Google Automotive OS is really nicely integrated), a Head-Up Display, and streaming apps to watch Netflix using the 13-speaker HK surround sound system. we got so many compliments and gawkers, wife was so happy to hear mid 20-something shout out AWESOME CAR. it made her day. she now despises driving her gas car, so were committed to EV, soon to be leasing a Polestar 2 and slapping down money on a Polestar 3 the second pre-orders become available later this year for delivery next. in summary, its been 25+ years since Ive had so much fun driving, just plain driving when it was fun before the novelty wore off. Id arrive home from an errand and try and find somewhere else I needed to go, or take the long way home bc I didnt want the music to end. recommended : Strong Buy

Nice looking car. Smaller than I expected on the inside. The lack of thought to cupholders and the waste of space with the center console really hinder it being a comfortable and usable experience for the price.

How much does the 2022 Polestar 2 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $20,600 |
| Year-Round Low | $20,600 |
| Year-Round High | $26,046 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $26,056 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −20.94% |
Prices have softened 20.94% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 348 listings available, which gives you a meaningful pool to compare prices and equipment.
Is the 2022 Polestar 2 a good car?
Generally — the 2022 Polestar 2 earns a 4/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.
It comes across as a serious luxury EV attempt, with stylish design, premium interior materials, and impressive technology. It is aimed at shoppers who want a polished, upscale electric car rather than a purely practical commuter.
The main trade-offs are poor visibility and limited cargo space, and the expert notes also point to weak value for money. That means you should like the design-and-tech package enough to accept some everyday compromises.
34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Polestar 2 reliable?
Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2022 Polestar 2 is presented as a well-supported EV from a brand with stronger backing than many newcomers, and its ownership experience is built around convenience. Three years of complimentary service and maintenance is provided, and Polestar also includes three years of free AT&T data service.
The performance notes point to a capable electric setup with software-enabled improvements, including over-the-air updates and a range figure that was improved through software on the dual-motor model. That suggests the car’s long-term experience depends partly on software support as much as hardware.
For used buyers, the biggest ownership risk is making sure the car has been maintained and updated properly, since EV-specific systems and software matter a lot over time.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Polestar 2?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a used EV where software, charging behavior, and battery condition matter. Focus on how the car has been charged, whether it has any warning lights or charging irregularities, and whether the cabin and exterior match the mileage and asking price.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The 2022 lineup starts with a Single Motor trim and a Dual Motor car, and the cheaper version gives up the all-wheel-drive setup and some performance. The base car may also lack equipment that was once standard, so check whether the specific listing includes the packs you want.
- Powertrain: The Single Motor model uses front-wheel drive with 231 hp and a longer standard range, while the Dual Motor setup adds all-wheel drive and much stronger output. The dual-motor version is the quicker choice, but the single-motor car is the more efficiency-minded option.
- Safety package: Every Polestar 2 includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assist, road-sign recognition, and driver alert. Blind-spot monitoring with steering support, cross-traffic alert, rear-collision warning and mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and the surround-view camera are part of the Pilot Pack.
- Infotainment: The car uses a fully embedded Google-based system with built-in voice control, Google Play Store apps, and regular over-the-air updates. It also has four USB-C outlets and three years of complimentary AT&T data service.
- Range & charging: The Single Motor model is estimated at 265 miles of range, while the Dual Motor model is estimated at 249 miles. The battery pack is 78 kWh with 75 kWh of usable capacity, and DC fast charging can take about 33 minutes from 10% to 80%.
- Battery health: Check the battery state of health, confirm normal home and DC charging behavior, and review charging habits from the previous owner. You should also verify how much of the battery warranty remains and whether the car has any charging-related faults or reduced range.
Which 2022 Polestar 2 trim should I buy?
The 2022 Polestar 2 is offered in 2 trim levels: Single Motor, Dual Motor.
Here's the short version:
- Single Motor: This is the better-value choice if you want the lower entry price, front-wheel drive, and the longer estimated range. It suits you best if you care more about efficiency and everyday use than maximum acceleration.
- Dual Motor: Choose this if you want all-wheel drive and the stronger performance that comes with it. It is the more compelling pick if you want the quickest, most capable version of the car.
The safety package is incomplete on every trim, so if features like blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise matter to you, look for a car equipped with the Pilot Pack.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Polestar 2?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find value.
- Deal availability: 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 348 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 20.94% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 91.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $20,600, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Polestar 2's resale value?
The current average of $20,600 sits slightly below last year's $26,056.
That drop suggests the market has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if prices stabilize. If demand stays steady, a lower entry price today may make the car easier to resell later than when it was new.
The current deal environment also suggests buyers are still comparing this model against other EVs on value, so condition and equipment will matter a lot when you eventually sell. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Polestar 2 safe?
The Polestar 2 has not been crash-tested by NHTSA or IIHS.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Polestar includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assist, road-sign recognition, and driver alert as standard equipment. Blind-spot monitoring with steering support, cross-traffic alert, rear-collision warning and mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and the surround-view camera are available through the Pilot Pack.
A key caveat is that some of the more advanced driver-assistance features are not standard, so you should verify whether a used example has the safety equipment you want.
Should I buy a 2022 Polestar 2 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 20.94% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It adds a lower-priced Single Motor option and stronger tech-focused appeal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- It offers standard all-wheel drive and a more familiar, fully equipped feel.
The bottom line: The 2022 is the better path if you want the newer pricing structure, the added Single Motor choice, and a strong technology story. If you are shopping mainly for standard AWD and a more established setup, the 2021 remains worth a look.
