Summary
With 3,232 currently listed for sale and an average price of $18,604, 35.0% of 2021 Jeep Cherokee listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2021 Jeep Cherokee 4.8 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2021 Jeep Cherokee stands out as a midsize SUV with a long-running name and a distinctly modern identity. Jeep launched the KL-generation Cherokee as a 2014 model, and it arrived on an all-new platform with a design that drew controversy almost immediately. That styling may not appeal to everyone, but it is part of what makes the Cherokee memorable, especially since it does not lean heavily on nostalgia for the older Cherokee’s look.
What helps the 2021 Cherokee remain appealing is that it is more than just a conversation piece. The expert test drive data points to impressive, easy-to-use technology, and it also notes that the Cherokee is good at what it does and capable of doing more than many buyers might expect. At the same time, it is not without drawbacks: the base engine is described as underwhelming, and cargo space is limited. Even so, the Cherokee’s combination of technology, road manners, and broad capability gives it a distinctive place in the segment.

It’s a nice car, deceptively large inside, and comfortable. I’m average height but on the fluffy side, and it’s a very comfortable fit. Nice smooth ride. A/c feels like a freezer (I bought the car on the hottest day of the year and I was plenty cool on the long drive home.

| Year-Round Low | $18,561 |
| Year-Round High | $20,594 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $20,597 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.89% |
Prices have softened 9.89% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 3,262 listings available, which suggests you have a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2021 Jeep Cherokee a good car?
Yes — the 2021 Jeep Cherokee earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.0/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.
Drivers commonly praise its great value, smooth ride, and numerous safety features, and many also like the advanced technology and off-road capability. The Cherokee’s use-case appeal is strongest if you want a midsize SUV that feels distinctive, offers useful everyday tech, and can do more than a typical crossover. The main trade-offs are its potentially polarizing design, underwhelming base engine, and limited cargo space. With 32.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2021 Jeep Cherokee reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, with comments that emphasize long-term confidence, value, and a vehicle you can count on. The expert evaluation also describes the Cherokee as capable and well suited to everyday use, with a capable transmission that helps support consistent operation. On the cost side, the Cherokee’s fuel-saving transmission and available fuel economy help keep ownership manageable.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that some examples may show signs of uneven build quality or missing features that owners expected, so condition and maintenance history matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Jeep Cherokee?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a vehicle history report on any candidate, because accident-free status does not replace a full records check. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on body condition, electronics, and signs of wear that could affect daily use. It also helps to compare trim equipment carefully, since the Cherokee’s feature set changes meaningfully by version.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Latitude with 17-inch wheels and front-wheel drive is the entry point, while the 80th Anniversary Edition adds 19-inch Granite Crystal wheels and painted lower body cladding for a nicer look.
- Powertrain: You can get a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 180 horsepower, a 3.2-liter V-6 with 271 hp, or a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 270 hp and 295 pound-feet of torque. The nine-speed automatic is standard, and the Trailhawk adds serious off-road hardware such as Jeep Active Drive Lock and Selec-Speed Crawl Control.
- Safety package: Lane departure warning with lane keep assist, full-speed forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind spot monitoring are standard on every trim level. Adaptive cruise control with stop and go is limited to the Limited and Trailhawk, and it is part of an option package on the Trailhawk.
- Infotainment: The Cherokee uses Uconnect with a 7-inch touchscreen on the Latitude, Latitude Plus, and Latitude Lux, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen on the Limited and Trailhawk. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are wired, not wireless, and the Cherokee also offers a 4G WiFi hotspot and Amazon Alexa integration.
- Fuel efficiency: The Cherokee boasts up to 31 mpg highway on FWD models with the optional 2.0-liter turbo engine. AWD models with the base 2.4-liter engine return 29 mpg highway, 21 mpg city, and 24 mpg combined.
Which 2021 Jeep Cherokee trim should I buy?
The 2021 Jeep Cherokee is offered in 5 trim levels: Latitude, Latitude Plus, Latitude Lux, Limited, Trailhawk.
Here's the short version:
- Latitude: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Cherokee experience with the 7-inch touchscreen, standard smartphone integration, and the base 2.4-liter engine. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup, but it is also the trim most likely to feel stripped down compared with the others.
- Latitude Plus: This trim keeps the same basic formula as the Latitude while moving you up within the lineup, so it is the better choice if you want a little more equipment without jumping all the way to the upper trims.
- Latitude Lux: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more upscale equipment while still staying below the Limited and Trailhawk. It also gets the 7-inch touchscreen, and it is one of the trims that can be paired with the 2.0-liter turbo engine.
- Limited: This is the trim to target if you want the more premium infotainment setup with the 8.4-inch touchscreen and access to adaptive cruise control with stop and go. It is a strong pick if comfort and convenience matter more than off-road hardware.
- Trailhawk: This is the one to buy if you want the Cherokee’s most capable character, with Jeep Active Drive Lock, a 56:1 crawling ratio, and Selec-Speed Crawl Control. It also gets the 8.4-inch touchscreen and can be equipped with adaptive cruise control, though that feature is part of an option package.
The safety package is strong across the lineup, but adaptive cruise control is not standard on every trim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Jeep Cherokee?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on the right one.
- Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,262 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.89% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 77.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,561, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2021 Jeep Cherokee's resale value?
The current average of $18,561 sits slightly below last year's $20,597.
That softer pricing can help you buy more affordably now, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited unless the market tightens again. If you plan to sell later, the current trend suggests you should focus on buying a clean, well-equipped example at a competitive price. Strong condition and desirable equipment should matter more than ever if you want to protect value.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2021 Jeep Cherokee safe?
The Cherokee did not earn a Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS, and it earns four-star ratings from NHTSA, with a slight demerit for front driver side crash protection.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
The Cherokee comes standard with lane departure warning with lane keep assist, full-speed forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind spot monitoring. Adaptive cruise control with stop and go is reserved for the Limited and Trailhawk, and it is part of an option package on the Trailhawk. The main caveat is the headlight performance, where upper trims received an Acceptable rating and the rest received a Marginal rating.
Should I buy a 2021 Jeep Cherokee or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2021 if:
- 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.89% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2021 model year stands out for its impressive, easy-to-use technology and broad capability, even though the base engine is underwhelming and cargo space is limited.
The bottom line: The 2021 Cherokee makes sense if you want a used SUV with strong tech, solid owner satisfaction, and a market that currently favors careful shoppers. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years and shop whichever one gives you the best combination of condition, equipment, and asking price.
