CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Lexus RX
overall

Summary
With 1,355 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,596, 35.9% of 2017 Lexus RX listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Lexus RX 4.62 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
57.2% of 2017 Lexus RX listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Lexus RX stands out as a luxury crossover that emphasizes comfort, value, and a polished driving experience. It is praised for its premium interior materials and great ride quality, which help it feel upscale and relaxed on the road. Owners also tend to appreciate its luxury features and smooth ride, making it appealing to buyers who want a refined daily driver rather than a sportier SUV.
For 2017, the RX lineup gains broader F Sport availability, with the package now offered across the whole RX lineup. It also adds standard Safety System + Package inclusion, along with rain-sensing wipers and auto-braking for the parking-assist system. Those updates add useful equipment and help round out the RX 350’s appeal, though the model is still noted for limited cargo space and technology that can feel unintuitive.

I recently purchased a 2017 Lexus RX 350 for my wife to replace an older car. She is thrilled with every facet of it. Were both learning all the technological innovations and enjoying the comforts, ease of driving, safety features and sheer joy of finally owning a Lexus. Luxury at an affordable price!

Driving this car is comfortable. It has all the amenities that I was looking for. The heated steering wheel, heated and cooled seats plus the power mirrors which I didn’t know it had! I bought a CPO with. 18,418 miles on it and the warranty it comes with is awesome ! I definitely think it is a good value.

| Average Price a Year Ago | $24,326 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.08% |
Prices have softened 3.08% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,340 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of used RX options to compare.
Is the 2017 Lexus RX a good car?
Yes — it earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Safety.
Owners consistently praise the luxury features, comfort, and value for money, and they also highlight the smooth ride and technological advancements. In practical terms, that lines up with the RX’s role as a refined daily driver rather than a sporty SUV.
The main trade-offs are its limited cargo space and technology that can feel unintuitive, especially the Remote Touch Interface. That makes it a better fit if you care more about comfort and polish than maximum utility or a simple infotainment setup.
You also get a broader F Sport availability for this year, which expands the RX’s appeal if you want a more distinctive version of the same comfort-first crossover. With 34.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Lexus RX reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels reliable, dependable, and trouble-free enough to inspire confidence over time, especially for buyers who want a luxury crossover they can count on. The expert evaluation also emphasizes Lexus’ reliability ratings and resale value as part of the RX’s appeal.
That said, used buyers should still plan for the usual age-related wear items and verify that the technology and safety equipment are functioning properly before you buy.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Lexus RX?
At 57.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and any signs of prior repair. Because this model’s appeal depends heavily on comfort and technology, you should also test every major electronic feature and make sure the cabin equipment works as intended.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base RX is already well equipped, but the F Sport package adds adaptive suspension, sport seats, 20-inch wheels, a unique gauge cluster, steering wheel, shifter, and extra styling touches. The base version is the one most likely to feel light on those upgrades.
- Powertrain: The 3.5-liter V6 makes 295 hp and pairs with an 8-speed automatic. It’s tuned more for smoothness than quick acceleration, and the transmission is a strength.
- Safety package: Safety System + is standard, with dynamic cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and assist, and a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection. Blind-spot monitoring is not standard.
- Infotainment: The available 12.3-inch display is a major upgrade over the base 8-inch setup, but the remote-touch interface can be frustrating to use.
- Fuel efficiency: EPA estimates are 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.
Which 2017 Lexus RX trim should I buy?
The 2017 Lexus RX is offered in 1 trim level: RX 350.
Here's the short version:
The RX 350 is the trim to focus on if you want the core RX experience: a quiet cabin, strong comfort, and a polished ride. It already delivers the model’s main strengths, so it makes the most sense for buyers who want the best balance of value and everyday luxury.
The F Sport package is the standout upgrade if you want the RX to feel more special, because it adds the adaptive suspension and sport-oriented hardware that meaningfully changes the driving experience. It’s the best-value path for shoppers who care about handling and presentation, but it also pushes the price up enough that you should compare it carefully against the standard setup.
Safety System + is standard, but blind-spot monitoring remains an extra-cost item.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Lexus RX?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,340 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.08% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 57.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $23,231, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Lexus RX's resale value?
The current average of $23,577 sits slightly below last year's $24,326.
That softer pricing suggests the RX has already moved through some of its depreciation curve, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range, you give yourself a better chance of limiting your loss when it’s time to sell.
The model’s strong reputation for comfort and luxury features should continue to support demand among used buyers. A well-kept RX with the right equipment and clean history should remain easier to move than a less desirable luxury crossover.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Lexus RX safe?
The 2017 Lexus RX earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS. It earns four-star ratings in the individual overall front, driver front, and passenger front NHTSA tests.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Safety System + is standard and includes dynamic cruise, auto high beams, lane-departure warning and assist, and a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection. The RX also adds rain-sensing wipers and auto-braking for the parking-assist system.
One caveat is that blind-spot monitoring is not standard, so you may need to step up to a better-equipped example if that feature matters to you.
Should I buy a 2017 Lexus RX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 57.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.08% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The standard Safety System + package and broader F Sport availability make this year especially well-rounded.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $22,042, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $23,577 average.
- It focuses on comfort and value with a strong reputation for safety.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $26,042, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $23,577 average.
- It adds a third row for buyers who need extra seating.
The bottom line: The 2017 is the best all-around choice if you want the RX’s comfort, safety, and value in a well-equipped package. If price is your top priority, the 2016 is the smarter bargain; if you need extra seating, move to the 2018.
