Why it stands out
The 2014 Tesla Model S stands out as one of the cars that helped define the modern electric vehicle. It was revolutionary for offering more than 200 miles of EV range, a minimalist interior, and an exterior design shaped more by aerodynamics than fashion. It also arrived with an 85-kWh battery pack, a promised 265 miles of range, and a huge 17-inch infotainment screen, all of which made it feel far ahead of most rivals at the time.
What makes the 2014 Model S especially distinctive is how much technology it packed into a luxury sedan. The standard touchscreen controlled climate, entertainment, and vehicle functions, and the car lacked a stop/start button, instead turning on when the driver sat down and pressed the brake. It also came with heated front seats, leatherette seating surfaces, power-adjustable front seats, a seven-speaker 200-watt audio system, two USB ports, and unlimited free supercharging at Tesla’s Supercharger network. Buyers could also find factory options such as a panoramic glass roof, Nappa leather seats, premium audio, navigation, a backup camera, active air suspension, and rear-facing jump seats for children.
There are a few caveats, though. The Model S did not offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and the buying guide notes poor build quality and a weird steering yoke in some models. Even so, the 2014 Tesla Model S remains appealing for its strong performance, advanced technology, and the sense that it was years ahead of the curve when it first arrived.

If this is not your primary vehicle, you will love it. If it needs services from Tesla you might have to wait a bit. Road handling and cabin is solid. That’s why overall it is a great second car or have a second car as a back up.

The car was great, everything I wanted. When it came down to it, it was a little outside my budget. But the car was outstanding. Low miles, no damage, premium leather seats, great sound system. Definitely a good buy.

Takes a while to learn all the capabilities. The car is continually improved via software downloads. The buying experience and driving experience is outstanding. Brakes should last 300,000 miles due to regenerative braking. The fuel cost (electricity) is about 25% of the gasoline cost to drive the same number of miles.

How much does the 2014 Tesla Model S cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,257 |
| Year-Round Low | $14,806 |
| Year-Round High | $15,744 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $15,314 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −0.37% |
Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
There are 265 listings available, which gives you a reasonable amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2014 Tesla Model S a good car?
Generally — the 2014 Tesla Model S earns a 4.2/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its outstanding performance, modern features, premium sound system, luxurious interior, and low operating costs from electric driving. The overview also shows why it appeals to you if you want a luxury EV that feels ahead of its time, especially as a second car or as a value-oriented luxury choice. With 27.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Tesla Model S reliable?
Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback points to a car many owners find dependable enough to keep and enjoy over time, especially because of its low operating costs and strong day-to-day appeal. At the same time, some owners mention service availability and pricing concerns, so your long-term ownership experience may depend on how well the car has been maintained and how close you are to support. For used buyers, that means reliability can be good, but you should pay close attention to service history and ownership conditions before committing.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Tesla Model S?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should start with a history report to confirm accident status, title status, and any major ownership issues. Then prioritize a thorough inspection of the battery, charging behavior, and overall condition, since those are the kinds of items that can shape your ownership experience most. It also helps to focus on service records and signs of careful maintenance, especially if you want to reduce the risk of surprise repair costs.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Tesla Model S?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 265 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 75.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,806, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Tesla Model S's resale value?
The current average of $15,257 sits slightly below last year's $15,314.
That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable, which can help you plan your exit strategy if you buy now. For a future seller, steady pricing is useful because it reduces the risk of a sharp value drop in the near term. Strong owner satisfaction also helps keep demand healthy when you eventually list the car.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2014 Tesla Model S or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2014 if you want a used Model S with stable pricing, decent deal availability, and strong owner satisfaction. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby model years to see whether a slightly newer example offers a better mix of features and value for your budget.
